Planning my dream bedroom

Hi everyone, hope you all had a lovely weekend :)

I recently got a notice in the mail saying that the settlement date for my new home has been set on March 19th, which is in less than 2 months :D This definitely came as a surprise because the builders initially told me that it wasn’t going to be completed until early April. With that date set, I decided it was time to plan out the rooms of the new place, one of them being the master bedroom :3

So far the only item that’s set on this list is the bed. I’ve been looking for a tufted bed in that color for a good price for a while, and originally I thought Z Gallerie had good prices (~ $1200 USD), but when I saw this bed on Joss and Main for $750, I purchased it immediately. It works out because furniture takes weeks to ship, so I should get it just in time for moving :)

As for the rest of the items, I’m holding off on them until it gets closer to moving date. As a matter of fact a couple of the pieces1 I’m not too thrilled about, so I might end up with something totally different. But either way, it’s really exciting to be able to pick out exactly what I want for my room for the first time :)

    Wow! How exciting! The most exciting part of moving is probably the chance to design your dream bedroom :D My favourite piece of furniture besides my bed is probably my closet. The one built into my room is too small to fit everything in there, so this external one fits all my bags, clothes and more into it, plus it has slide doors so there’s a mirror in there too :)
    My room is extremely messy and boring though! I hope you’ll get to see the finish result of your dream bedroom soon!

      Haha, I agree. Your closet sounds really nice, not to mention functional! I feel like a lot of the closets are built very poorly and you end up not getting full use of the space.

    Oohh, so exciting, I bet you can’t wait to move in and make your dream bedroom :) If I had the money I’d done the same! Are you going to take pictures when everything is done? ^_^ My favourite piece of furniture is my lovely old-looking table which I use for putting away my jewelry and make up. :)

      Definitely! It might take a while though just because of all the furnitures we’d have to purchase, but it’ll happen sooner than later :P

    That’s so exciting! I love the pieces you have picked out so far, especially the bed and the settee. I like the headboard on the bed, and the settee gives a nice pop of color :) Even though we’ve been at our house for a couple years… our master bedroom isn’t really furnished yet, haha. I think it’s because we only go there to sleep, so it’s been lower on our priority. I’m just now cleaning it up to prepare for new furniture, though I haven’t picked them out yet.

      It definitely is :) The master bedroom is actually one of the first rooms I thought of decorating, just because I’m used to spending a lot of time in my room. I think I’ll take my time with the rest of the home though, haha

    Beautiful bed, mirror and sofa :) My bedroom is full of pieces of old wood furniture from when I was a kid – it desperately needs an upgrade :p

      I know that feeling! My current room actually has a desk AND a vanity from the 80′s…before I was born!

    You are so young and buying your own house! People here live with their parents in late 20s, unless they want to blow all money on renting apartments (I think caucasian, non-New Yorkers do that, because they can’t accept it). Oh, and I haven’t congratulated you on your engagement! =)

    I moved into my house only two years ago and got brand new furniture. Unfortunately I can’t find pictures for my beautiful bed, nightstand, and chest of drawers (that’s actually everything in my bedroom because it’s tiny). However I can tell you that I got everything as a set from Raymour & Flannigan. They are all real wood too, so you know they won’t collapse after a few years. I clicked on some of your links but I can’t really tell if they are real wood. That’s something you do want to guarantee. They might be a bit pricey but it’s so worth it. My dad’s old computer desk was not real wood and it got bent where the huge old-school computer once sat. :P

      Thank you! :D I actually didn’t plan for the home purchase to happen this soon, but I’m glad it worked out the way it did. If my parents were still here in the US, I’d definitely live with them rather than on my own.

      I agree that real wood makes a huge difference in furniture – my parents purchased a lot of real wood furniture and some have lasted more than 15 years and still look new!

    I wish to one day have a house of my own and be able to decor it however I like. It sucks that I’m not there yet and probably won’t be for awhile because I’m not planning on settling in just one location. I want to still see the world and travel.

    But congrats on your house! I’m jealous that you’re so young and have been able to accomplish one of the dreams that everyone wants. :)

      Thanks! I’ve been wanting to be able to decorate a home all on my own for a while now, and it’s definitely one of the goals I’ve been working towards. But if you want to travel the world, I’d highly suggest doing that while you’re still young – once you start settling down, it gets harder to be spontaneous and do those types of things :/

      Thank you! I actually really like the settee, I just don’t like the price -_- Furniture shopping is a lot of fun, but trying to stick to your budget isn’t ;)

    All of that furniture looks great. I’m in the process of redoing my room and i’m getting a new bed soon. My parents are getting it for me for my birthday (even though my birthday was last week.) I’m still not sure where i’m getting it, but i’m going to pick it out so im exited for that :D

      Oo, that’ll be fun! You should try looking at sites like wayfair.com or hayneedle.com – they have pretty good deals on there :) Or if you’re not in a rush, I highly recommend Joss & Main, which was where I got my bed.

    That’s exciting! I really like your picks! :) For my bedroom, I don’t have a lot of stuff that I have on my own furniture-wise, as I moved here and live in this room. It was furnished already; I live with my grandparents on my dad’s side.

      Thanks! My room has always been furnished by my parents pre-college, but I still found ways to make it my own via wall-art and small accessories :)

    Yes, I really liked the teal sofa you chose! I know some people complain about the quality of Ikea furniture but personally I’ve never had a problem with them. It sounds like your headboard is holding up pretty well too.
