Review: YSL Rouge Volupte Shine

Written By Jenny Wu on

The YSL Rouge Volupte was my first high end lipstick, and I had a love-hate relationship with it. Loved it because it’s so beautiful and so creamy, hated it because it accentuated every line and flaw of my lips. Unless my lips were perfect, I couldn’t wear the Rouge Volupte without hating myself. As a result, I couldn’t wear that nearly as much as I would’ve liked to.

Product Claim

Give in to the temptation of dazzling color. Succumb to a unique sensorial experience with extreme comfort and luminous shine.  Hyaluronic acid microspheres help seal in moisture for 8 hours of hydration. Anti-oxidants and emollients help condition and soften lips.

Findings

The Rouge Volupte Shine is very similar to the Rouge Voluptegorgeous packaging, rich creamy texture, and applies like a dream. But unlike the Rouge Volupte, this one hides the flaws on my lips rather than accentuate them! Even with dry lips, I can apply the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine without any worries. The finish is just as it claims: rich colors with a luminous shine – almost gloss-like, sans the tackiness. In other words, this makes your lips look elfin’ amazing.

YSL rouge volupte shine #17 Rose in TensionPin

The color I chose was #17 Rose in Tension, a beautiful berry rose color. The color in the tube looks a darker, but when applied the color is lighter and more flattering. You can definitely layer the color to build intensity, but for everyday wear I find 1 light application gives me just the right amount of color. Due to it’s richer hue it’s a lovely fall/winter color or if you’re looking for an alternative to the classic red lips.

This has become one of my favorite lipsticks to wear, hands down. I'm a sucker for beautiful packaging, and this obviously scored 100% in that aspect, but it's rare when you find a product that's beautiful inside and out. Whether you're looking to invest in your first high end lipstick or just looking for a new lipstick, you can't go wrong with the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine. Needless to say I will definitely be adding more colors to my collection.
